No one wants to be on medication for life if at all possible. Meditation for anxiety and panic attacks is a powerful natural remedy that you can learn and do for yourself, anytime, anywhere.

Even if you’re not plagued by anxiety or panic attacks, meditation is a phenomenal tool for amplifying your quality of life. Meditation provides greater relaxation and peace, happiness and joy, improved overall health and wellbeing, and heightened intuition and creativity. And all of that for free.

Meditation is a powerful force for good in your life.

If you’ve ever experienced the pulse pounding, fear-inducing, panic attack, then you know how terrifying that can be at worst and anxiety riddled at best. If you haven’t, it can be hard to grasp the depth and difficulty of that affliction completely.

Once you’ve had a panic attack, it’s incredibly challenging to stuff that Jack back in the box. Same thing for anxiety and stress, which often leads to panic attacks if left unchecked.

Anxiety and panic attacks threaten your quality of life. Meditation for anxiety helps restore it.
~MeditationWisdom.com

Feeling is Believing

If I had not experience this myself, I would not believed it. The power of the body’s hormones to send me into a state of panic within seconds, is powerfully frightening thing.

The fight or flight hormones are designed to save your life in an emergency. But when survival hormones are tripped into high gear they can escalate out of control, they take over all reason.

It’s best to take action before that tsunami of hormones sweep you away. The next best time is now.

The biggest problem with anxiety that trips on the panic attack switch is that it becomes something to fear, and the more you fear it the more like it is to happen. Once you experience that out-of-control kind of physiological response, that ignores all reason, (because remember, fear-fueling hormones are coursing through your body).

Hormones don’t listen to logic and panic attacks ignore all reason. But you can train your body to respond to your breath through meditation.

Causes of Anxiety

There are many possible causes for anxiety and it’s different for each person. However, the one thing that all anxiety and panic has in common is hormonal imbalance, in particular, escalated levels of cortisol and adrenal.

The landscape of today’s health problems is a challenging maze to navigate. There are so many possible anxiety inducing factors.

From food to body care products to environmental exposure, today’s intense lifestyle is taxing on the nervous system. People are working longer hours with more to manage, while doing less old fashioned socializing with family and friends, something proven to lower stress and increase longevity.[1]https://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/30/books/chapters/chapter-outliers.html

Some of the most common causes of hormonal imbalance, include diseases such as diabetes and thyroid issues, as well as birth control pills. Each item in this short list can be expanded into an in depth view on each one of these issues.

We won’t elaborate on that here, but it will give you an idea of which ones might most apply to your struggle so that you can research it further.

Causes of Hormonal Imbalance that can Lead to Anxiety

Diet

Stress

Illness

Stimulants

Menopause

Medications

Excess weight

Exposure to toxic substances

See the natural remedies for anxiety that I used to heal tremendous stress, anxiety and even panic attacks.

The Solution is Simple

The one thing you’ll have with you all the days of your life is the ability to control your breath and to meditate. You may not always have a prescription handy, or if you do, you may not want to build up a dependency or addiction to it.

It’s best to expand your brain through breathing exercises and meditation for anxiety rather than constrict it through drugs.

Mindful meditation can help ease psychological stresses like anxiety, depression, and pain.
~2014 Meditation Study, John Hopkins University

The Simple Box Breathing Exercise

This is one of the simplest breathing exercises to help you get started. Widely used to relieve stress and calm the body, from yoga and meditation to special ops soldiers on missions, this is simple and easily doable.

What is the Box Breathing Technique?

Breath in for 4 seconds.

Hold your breath for 4 seconds after the inhale.

Breath out for 4 seconds.

Hold your breath for 4 seconds after the exhale.

If you’d like to be guided through this, here’s a clear and simple 4:49 minute video that explains it and then guides you through it.

Meditation for Anxiety Resources

SOMA Meditation

The SOMA breathing meditations use rhythmic breathing that hyper-oxygenates the body, bringing in more oxygen and blowing out more carbon dioxide than normal.

This alters the pH of the blood stream and creates a strong electromagnetic field that elevates your vibrational state. An elevated state help cleanse negative emotions and trauma from the mind and body.

“Your quality of thought is linked to breath. Erratic breathing leads to erratic thinking, while smooth consistent breathing leads to smooth, coherent thought.”
~SomaBreath.com

Is Balance is a Myth?

There’s a popular concept perpetuated amongst coaches and speakers that “there’s no such thing as living “a balanced life”. Some have cited a ballet dancer standing on point, going through a thousand muscle and nerve twitches to stay balanced and thus concluded that, balance is a myth.

Another common example is how with each step forward it is said that we are in a falling position before catching ourselves in the next step of walking. Perhaps the toddler is falling forward as she learns to walk, but for most of us, walking is a more intentional process of balancing on one foot and then the other, as we progress. It’s the same for living a balanced life.

Balance is that place between motion and stillness, between in-breath and out-breath, between night and dawn, where angels whisper your name and eternity is poised to answer you.
~LeAura Alderson, MeditationWisdom.com

Heed the Clues

The interesting thing about balance is that we tend to notice when we’re not. We feel it in our gut and in our bones and in our restlessness, unhappiness and even in depression.

Unease and disease are all clues about balance. If we miss them and fall or fail, the crash will get our attention. Best to heed them and avoid the fall. Slow down, tune in and listen.

Unease and disease are the cues and clues from your soul. Slow down, tune in, breath deeply and listen.
~LeAura Alderson, MeditationWisdom.com

A Balanced Life is a Process… not an Arrival

Living a balanced life is a process of movement and rest… movement and rest. Conscious meditation employs both, movement and rest. The movement of an active and dynamic mind focused on breath, and rest as the body releases tension, attachment and busyness.

In this day and age, where everything is “GO! GO! GO!” it can be hard to pause and take a moment. And that’s exactly why we must.
~LeAura Alderson, MeditationWisdom.com

Living a Balanced Life

As an entrepreneur and ideator, I know it can be hard to just stop and take some time to center yourself. No matter your walk of life, giving yourself space to connect inwardly is not only healthy for peace of mind, but it’s incredibly reorienting and helps you to remember to focus on what’s important in your life.

Balance is a seemingly hard thing to achieve, because we are always bodies in motion. Our planet is constantly in motion as well and yet retains balance on its axis, and maintains the balance of day and night… activity and rest.

Allowing yourself even a few minutes to just sit and breathe and reflect, can reduce stress and increase peace.

Breath is balancing for it enters and exits the center of your body, through your “rod of life”, represented by your spine. Life energy and breath, flow up and down the energy centers from our head to our seat, and back again.

Every breath we take, every step we make, can be filled with peace, joy and serenity.
~Thich Nhat Hanh

No Time to Meditate?

When you cannot meditate, you can still work in centering and balancing yourself throughout your day. No matter where you are and what you’re doing, you can still consciously use your breath to balance your sense of self.

The more consciously you work with your breath in this simple way, whenever you can, the more you will be cultivating a meditative state of mind, that you can call on, anywhere, anytime.

Breathe in to expand and center, breath out to release and relax.

What’s Most Important in Your Life?

Your family, friends, relationships, work opportunities, travel, children… Whatever it is for you right now, give yourself a moment to reflect and appreciate that which is most important in your life.

It’s easy to get caught up in the chaos in the media and the dramas of others and our own struggles. What’s more important is to steadily return your focus to what’s most important in your life.

Meditation, gives you space to connect inwardly, improves peace of mind and returns focus to what’s most important in your life.

Where do you draw the line between your spiritual life and the rest of the world in your everyday experience? This question came up in our community for creatives, iCreateDaily, in particular, relative to how to balance personal and business into an synthesized, integrated life.

If you are an entrepreneur or creator serious about your art, you may find this article helpful. Meanwhile, we really enjoyed the wisdom shared by spiritual teachers and authors Gregg Braden, Dr. Joe Dispenza and Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. You can get a preview of what’s to come in the video Q&A session from the excerpted quotes that precede it.

We’d love to hear how you enjoyed this and what you’d like to see more of as we develop this new website on Meditation from all disciplines and paths. You can send us a note here.

The moment you draw the line between your spiritual life and the rest of the world, you have fallen into the ancient trap of separation and polarity, that keeps you separate from the very thing that you love and cherish the most, and that is life itself.
~Gregg Braden, TCCHE 2017

“We’re living in such an amazing time right now… if you’re not being challenged in some way in your life, you’re not alive.”
~Dr. Joe Dispenza

If you see your life as the school… as the initiation, then you can no longer be a victim to your life, you’re going to have to meet the challenges in your life from a greater mind… greater than the mind that created it.
~Dr. Joe Dispenza

How do we become supernatural? We’re going to have to do what feels unnatural at first. If you doing what’s unnatural over and over again, sooner or later you’re going to become supernatural.

As we grow into ourselves we come to recognize that we are a complex composition of instinct, feelings, thoughts and spirit, and that our optimal personality development is dependent on the even growth of all of these aspects. It may also become apparent that for some of us, there are areas that develop ahead of others, and some that never quite seem to catch up.

There is a man whose is classified as a genius IQ (reportedly 197, whereas Einstein’s was 160) named Walter O’Brien. He has a hit TV show modeled after his life and the MacGyver-like organization he founded, of geniuses who solve all kinds of problems all around the world. Yet when it comes to personal relationships, Walter says his emotional intelligence—EQ for emotional quotient—falls short. [1]https://www.forbes.com/sites/cherylsnappconner/2016/07/13/genius-pr-lessons-from-walter-obrien-and-scorpion-hes-real/#d0adca6d3822

Of course, Walter is an extreme example of a self-professed low EQ. However, not unlike many in the genius, autistic and/or ADHD spectrums of intelligence, uneven growth between the different aspects of human beingness, is not unusual.

Growing pains are about personality integration. ~LeAura Alderson

Most of us have experienced growth in spurts in different areas of life, in other than even ways. We could even say that personality development up through our 30’s can look a bit like the gangly teen whose coordination has not yet caught up with itself.

Earlier in life it’s relative to physical coordination up through puberty. This is where people get and latch onto phrases like, “I’ve always been clumsy.” This physical phase is followed by emotional, and mental coordination.

From there, we’ve developed—hopefully—a solidly integrated vehicle that continues to improve and refine itself, even as the soul becomes increasingly more present, often expressed as mid-life crisis, if what we’re doing is off track from our deeper purpose, or as an urge toward more spiritual alignment. So it’s no surprise that more people discover—or seek out—meditation in and beyond their 30’s.

The Cycles of Personality Development

Some schools of thought consider seven year developmental cycles. Others look at it in 10 year increments. For simplicity here, we’ll speak to 10 year cycles of growth as a fairly accurate generality.

General Ages and Stages of Growth

0-10 physical development

10-20 emotional development

20-30 mental development

30-40 personality development

40 onward – spiritual development

So all of these constitute personality development, where personality represents the vehicle for your interaction with the world. For your personal growth and development, consider if there are areas of your body, emotions and mentality where you could benefit by stepping up the development and achieve greater integration. This could be your next area for growth. Send us an email and let us know what it is for you. The more you share about what you’re looking for and needing, the more we can bring more of that to you. Remember…

Never stop growing. That’s what we’re here to do. ~LeAura Alderson

Meditate on Your Toe!

Well at least it starts there as you will see in one of these guided relaxation meditations.

From an email I received from Biogetica, a company where I’ve ordered holistic remedies:

In today’s world the left big toe doesn’t seem to be getting the love and respect it deserves. It is common parlance to say things that suggest we don’t care much about our own big left toe.

However, the left toe is sacred, like any other part of your body. In some ancient teaching on the energy body it is considered to be of huge importance, a place that contains a very sacred energy. This can be seen in various ancient practices such as the practice of touching an elder’s feet, or in the meditation described below. Let’s do this meditation because very few of us have actually ever meditated on or given any importance to, our big left toe.
~Biogetica.com

How to do a Body Scan Relaxation Meditation

Sit in a comfortable position in a chair, preferably with a straight back.

If you’re using this for sleep, then you may also lie down in bed on your back. Instead of “counting sheep”, you’ll be communicating with your body and instructing every muscle and part of you to relax.

You will be bring your attention and awareness to your BIG left Toe. Sense it. Fix your awareness on it for as long as you wish and until you have a very clear sensation of it.

From there your attention will flow to your other toes, then to your right big toe followed by the other toes.

Next will be your feet… the soles of your feet… the tops of your feet… your ankles.

Continue this process of allowing your attention to slowly scan your body from your toes to the top of your head. Slowly, peacefully.

As your attention flows to each area, imagine breathing relaxing oxygen into each part of your body with each deep and soothing breath.

For lovely guided meditations with music, we recommend these.

8 Minute Guided Relaxation Meditation – Soothing Female Voice

This is definitely a relaxing meditation with a good balance in the volume of a soothing female voice to uplifting, yet soothing music.

The 8 minutes went by quickly and seemed to end abruptly, as the music and voice tones were the same throughout. However, if you also find yourself ready for more, you can easily click the slider bar back to the beginning or middle to give you a little more time to relax.

15 Minute Guided Meditation by Kiyomi Fae

Guided Relaxation Meditation with Soothing Female Voice

Kiyomi Fae also guides you through releasing tension in your body one gentle moment at a time. In this guided meditation Kiyomi speaks throughout the entire 15 minutes, so if you prefer to have some non-vocal meditation time, this one may not be for you.

20 Minute Guided Relaxation Meditation by TheHonestGuys

Partly Guided Soothing Male Voice

We like how this one is guided up to around the first 8 minutes. The soothing voice and British accent of Rick Clark (RickVanman) and soft soothing background tones guides you deeper into relaxation and then leaves you to enjoy that state without intrusion.

The partial guide, music and ocean waves make this an easy win of a guided relaxation meditation. The rhythm of the waves are as the rhythm or “breath of nature”, and getting in sync with those helps us to get in sync with ourselves and our own nature, the nature within us.

If you’re new to meditating, it’s also fine to view the visuals with “soft eyes” at half mast, while you tune into the sounds, the guiding voice and your own breathing.

Breath in deeply… exhale fully and enjoy.

30 Minute Guided Relaxation Meditation by Jason Stephenson

Fully Guided Meditation in a Soothing Male Voice With an Australian Accent

This seasoned Australian musician and meditation teacher takes you deep into a guided relaxation meditation that will indeed help you find peace. Jason has a few pauses in the guiding vocals, but it’s mostly voice guided.

Jason also includes color visualization in this meditation to help you envision positive emotions entering your body and negative feelings exiting your body as you inhale positives and exhale negatives.

The music in this video includes angelic female voice sounds that help transport you to a heavenly peace.

The Popular “Box Breathing” or “4×4 Breathing” Technique

The box breathing technique, AKA 4×4 and 4 square breathing, is a fast and effect way to relax and to get into meditation.

What is the 4 Square Breathing Technique?

4 STEP BREATHING – 4 things in 4 counts each

20 Minute Box Breath – 4×4 Breathing Video

20 Minute Square Breathing Technique – 5×5 Breath Video

If you’d like a little bit longer count, or perhaps you just resonate more with the number 5 instead of 4, give this one a go.

We like the pleasant resonant dinging count that helps create a good breathing rhythm.

Robert Byrne is cited as having originated the profound quote:

The purpose of life is a life of purpose. ~Robert Byrne, author

This is profound because it is so true. No matter whether we’re able to do the work we love we should be able to love the work we do.

Even Dogs Need a Purpose

One of my family’s favorite movies and books is A Dog’s Purpose.

Our dogs get restless if we don’t walk them and play with them. Cesar Milan, a.k.a. The Dog Whisperer says that dogs need three things, and in this order: Exercise, discipline and affection.

Our dogs believe their purpose is to keep us company, get us up and moving and to patrol and protect our home and neighborhood. Oh, and to play of course! Dogs are at their happiest when they’re active and doing something. It’s the same for people.

If you’re feeling stagnant, frustrated, depressed and lost, the first steps out of that is through motion. You need to get vigorous, get moving and change your physical state. That stimulates your circulatory system and boosts your energy, which in turn, boosts your sense of being and of hope.

You may have assumed I’d say that you should meditate. Well yes, but not as the first thing. To meditate while in a negative state can make things worse for some people, especially if you’re new to meditation. In meditation, your “monkey brain” can create a ruckus with its antics and rattle the mental cage as it swings from problem to problem, argument to argument, worry to worry.

The next thing you need to do is to change your story. Instead of dwelling on how bad you feel, reframe your challenges into opportunities. People who have faced tragedy were forced by circumstance to gain perspective and deep appreciation on what’s really important.

Don’t wait for tragedy to make space for what really matters in your life. Carpe diem. Carpe momentum!

If you don’t feel connected to any particular purpose and aren’t sure what it is that you’re here to do, don’t worry! That’s absolutely normal, and you’re actually in the majority. Most people go through life without even asking that question. That you’re asking and seeking means you’re already ahead of the game.

But there’s actually good news in not knowing your purpose. Author James Altucher says it this way:

Forget purpose. It’s okay to be happy without one. The quest for a single purpose has ruined many lives. ~James Altucher, author, entrepreneur

So rather than spend time seeking out your purpose, get busy living the life you’d like to live to the extent possible. In that journey you will find your way. So your task is not to seek purpose, but rather, to live more fully. Do more of what lights you up and that will light your way to greater purpose.

Finding Purpose in Presence

For many, the James Altucher quote and concept is contrary to how we typically think and speak of purpose. But when we move beyond the memes of our conditioning, we can begin to see the wisdom and profundity of this perspective, and it can be incredibly liberating.

It’s far more common for people to stress over finding their all-encompassing life purpose… the “one thing” they’re here to do. It’s excellent to steadily steer by purpose, however feeling as if the big life purpose has not been found keeps many from the kind of progress that’s possible, and from excelling as much as they’re capable of doing. And more importantly, it can keep you from living fully in the present and enjoying the journey and the purpose in each day.

You don’t need to seek purpose.
To seek purpose is to delay living in the present.
Live fully in the present and your purpose will find you.

Seeking purpose is like focusing on the destination rather than enjoying the journey.
Seeking purpose is like living for “when”, rather than living each moment fully present in the “now”.
Seek the power of the present, and the present will reveal your power.
Invite wonder into your moments, and your moments of wonder will grow.
Where you find wonder, you will also find clues to purpose.

Invite wonder into your moments, and your moments of wonder will grow.

Don’t worry about finding your perfect purpose. Just head in that general direction and your purpose will unfold in wonderful ways that increasingly enrich your days.

Anguishing over just what it is that one is here to do has caused too many people to stall into a tailspin, and despair at never finding their “true purpose”. Too many feel paralyzed by lack of direction and decision. They lose vision, and eventually give up the shadow of their dreams.

It is sad and irreversible to get to the end of one’s life and not be fulfilled… to feel life has slipped away, unlived. Don’t let that happen to you.

It’s never too late to create greater meaning in the moments. The more meaning we make, the more purpose we discover.

The good news is that now is the time to create your present and future. Begin now, today, in moving one step closer in the direction of your dreams. You may have to dig them out and dust them off. Don’t delay, just do. Don’t fret the past. Today is a new day; one that has never happened before in the history of mankind… in the history of you.

Gratitude and the Power of Being Thankful

As of this writing, January, 2018, a search of Amazon books and the word “Gratitude” currently yields 13,636 results. When I first looked this up in 2014, it was 2,940 search results.

Gratitude books on Amazon have grown by 464% over the four years between 2014 and 2018. Wow! Now that’s a positive and encouraging trend!

So… when the news today is so filled with so many negatives, it’s vital to remember that there are many more positives today than ever before.

Gratitude books on Amazon have grown by 464%!

A search of Google and the word “Gratitude” currently yields 125,000,000 results, and gets 90,500 searches each month, as of this writing. That’s over 90k people looking up gratitude things. E.g, sites, books, products and information related to gratitude.

Four years ago a Google of gratitude returned 21,100,000 search results.

Google search results for ‘gratitude’ have grown by 592% in four years!

But it gets even better. The word ‘grateful’ currently yields 224,000,000 search results, and there are 201,000 searches for “grateful” each month!!

Clearly, gratitude is a growing trend.

Gratitude is far more than just a word. More than good manners and social etiquette; more than something reserved for Thanksgiving, or when someone specifically helps us. Gratitude is a movement… a way of life… a lifestyle and a life saver.

One of the simplest things you can do for the greatest benefit to your life is the practice of gratitude.

Be Grateful and You’ll Be Happier and Healthier

You cannot…

…hate when you are truly grateful, but love can flood your heart.
…be fearful when you are truly grateful, but courage can fortify your mind.
…be angry while grateful, and gratitude engenders empathy.

When you practice being grateful for your life and all that is in it, you begin to transform.

The Power of Being Thankful

Gratitude Transforms:

Stress to strength

Angst to enthusiasm

Agitation to contemplation

Irritation to patience

Hopelessness to hopefulness

Depression to joy

The practice of gratitude is a powerful way to practice presence, while attracting more in your life for which to be grateful.

We are thankful for you!

What are you thankful for? Feel free to send us an email, We’d love to hear from you!

How many breaths go by unnoticed? How many heartbeats?

How many opportunities to love, to live, to make a difference… to matter in ways that have meaning for you?

To live a life of meaning, you give meaning to life.

You decide what you’re about… who you are, and who you will become by the decisions you make in each moment of each day. These moments are the cells that make up the body of your life and each day your choices determine the nature and health of it… of you.
